The Abbé agreed: It is exactly with this understanding, that the children of Amatodate are at the same time the children of the Almighty, that we have endured all the abuse the world has heaped upon us down the centuries — right from the beginning, when we faced down the tyrants of P'yŏngyang.

This was wonderful! What are the names of the goddess of the sun, and of the thunder-god? The goddess of the sun reminds me of Ra...but Ra in Egyptian culture is more thought of as a creator, and has no association with joy or maternal smothering. Just interesting how different the same gods can be...
ReplyDeleteAnyway - I really like the thought that justice dealt is at the same time mercy! The reference to Psalm 85:10 is so fitting.
The deities described in Solbön/Åskan were not named. I guess that the manuscripts which inspired Gjallarhorn were as good sources for Finnish paganism as it gets. I realise that putting the translated and original lyrics here would help make sense of it better:
